kingdom at hand.

It took me an hour to reflect on this (having that same dryness ha ha ha)…

It’s pretty much obvious and it makes sense: God’s call is constant and that He calls everyone to serve Him, but only those who answered the call can be sent.
Putting it in a personal tone would mean, God calls me to serve Him and it’s constant, it’s up to me if I’ll answer thus allowing my self to be sent and used by Him.

That’s it, I’m done.

Or so I thought…

I almost missed the latter part of today’s gospel.
More important than us being called, more important than allowing our self to be sent is the reason why: “…make this proclamation: The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt.10:7)

There’s a huge difference between proclaiming that we need to do these things for us to experience the kingdom of heaven against the kingdom of heaven is at hand thus let us do these things.

The first part is conditional, It somehow connotes that grace depend on us. We need to be good, we need to do well and we have to do it right so that God will give us what we need and will pour His blessing unto us.

The latter part shows God’s mercy. That God’s grace is unconditional it depends of Him, it pours regardless of us.

Of course there’s a need for us to do good things (allowing our selves to be used by Him) However it must not and should not be seen and or presented as something that is a prerequisite of God’s grace but our way of showing how much He means to us, how much we love Him. It is only then that we can truly say that “the kingdom of heaven is at hand”.
